Instructional Design Workshop - Bill Dyer
Bill Dyer has spent 15 years in the computer field, many of which were related to the use of computers in education. He currently teaches continuing education classes at Amarillo College, Amarillo, Texas. He uses the Web as a supplement to classroom instruction. He also created and teaches a Web-based course in UNIX.
His other experiences include: technical writing, curriculum development, instructor, programmer/analyst, system administration, computer technician, and technical research. Bill's pages on Web-based Training can be found at: http://www.dyroweb.com.
Increasing Interactivity - Patti Shank
Patti Shank has been designing, facilitating and managing innovative instructor-led and technology-based educational programming for more than 12 years. She has a Master’s degree in Education and Human Development with a concentration in educational technology from George Washington University and is now a faculty member. Formerly, as Manager of Health Education and Training for a large healthcare organization, her department’s creative programming won accolades and awards from accreditation and national training organizations.
Patti's chapter on distance education was recently published in the 1998 Pfeiffer Training Annual. She is quoted frequently in training journals and often requested as a speaker at national training conferences. Patti began Insight Ed, an instructional design and training firm, in 1995 to help others augment their training efforts through innovation and technology. She has designed web based training for healthcare organizations, technology companies, and higher education institutions.
Challenges of Tomorrow - Greg Nichols
Greg Nichols has been a Training Development Officer with the Canadian Forces since 1982. He is currently serving as the Officer Commanding School Training at the Canadian Forces Training Development Centre (CFTDC) in Borden, Ontario. This summer Greg completed a Master of Education with specialization in Educational Technology at the University of Calgary. His major project was to develop a web based course entitled "Management of Educational Technology Systems" for the university's new distance leaning program. The course development process included a formative evaluation carried out entirely on-line, a process which he describes in the 1997 book "Web Based Instruction" (B. Khan, Ed., Educational Technology Publications).
Design Challenges - Kevin Oakes
As president of Asymetrix, and general manager of the Learning Services Group, Kevin brings years of success and experience in the field of Interactive Multimedia and Online Learning to Asymetrix. Prior to joining Asymetrix, Kevin was president and founder of Oakes Interactive, an award winning technology-based training company outside of Boston. Now the Professional Services Division of Asymetrix, it is one of the country's leading developers of custom multimedia training programs and electronic performance support systems for corporate training departments. Mr. Oakes is currently the co-chair of the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council's CyberArtisan Group, and is a frequent speaker at industry events nationally. He has achieved his Series 6, 63, Life, Accident & Health, and Property & Casualty licenses, and received his BA in Communications from the University of New Hampshire.
Open Workshop - Jeanne Hites
Jeanne Hites has worked for over 12 years in the Human Resources Development field with companies such as AT&T and Landis & Gyr Powers as an instructional designer and marketing specialist. Currently she heads the InforMedia Services group at St. Cloud State University which designs and produces instructional products in a variety of media, including Web-based instruction. She is also an associate professor of Information Media, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in media, materials and methods of instruction, instructional design, multimedia, computer-based instruction and research.
She has an Ed. D. from Northern Illinois University in Instructional Technology, and her research has focused mostly in the areas of technology and training and education for diverse or international students.
